100,000 BBQ fans can’t be wrong.
That’s the number of smoked pork enthusiasts who throng to Tom Lee Park at the foot of Beale Street in Memphis each spring to witness and absorb the flavors and beehive of competition that has become the spectacle, Memphis in May.
Among that huge crowd was a bbq competition team from Memphis, aiming to make their mark on this dynamo of a bbq contest.
To say that they succeeded in that endeavor would be a bit of an understatement. But let’s leave it to team member Richard Ralph to pick up the story.
“Let me start with this one opinion:
Dizzy Pig BBQ seasonings are the best, most diverse line up of seasonings on the market today!”
Serial Grillers competed in seven ancillary contests, which take place on the Friday, with turn-in times starting at 1:00 pm and ending at 3:00 pm. They include:
This is where Dizzy Pig Barbecue Company’s diverse line-up of rubs comes in!
Some of my favorites, Red Eye, Tsunami Spin, Raging River, Cow Lick, Raising The Steaks and Dizzy Dust helped us get:
Three top Tens at MIM is pretty darn good.”
For a little background info, Memphis in May is all about the pig. The three key categories are Whole Hog, Pork Shoulder and Pork Ribs.
In 2015, the Serial Grillers are battling it out with another 120 teams for supremacy in the best pork rib category.
“Thank goodness we are competing in ribs, because the pressure is on Randy Cannon, our rib master, and not me! Serial Grillers have been using Dizzy Pig Barbecue Company seasonings since 2003. Randy and I each have our favorites that we use on ribs and shoulders so I just want to say……
Find your own winning formula,
but definitely start with Raging Riverand Dizzy Dust! Hahah!”
Once the Serial Grillers out-ribbed the majority of the field and made their way to the finals, they had to deal with respected and knowledgeable onsite judges who gave their ribs intense inspection and scrutiny in presentation, taste and texture.
When the sun began to set over Beale Street and Memphis in May 2015 headed toward the record books, Serial Grillers stood alone on the podium as top Rib team for 2015! Their finals score placed them alongside top teams in shoulder (Big Bob Gibson’s BBQ) and whole hog (ultimate MIM Grand Champion, The Shed BBQ Team).
In the words of Richard Ralph of Dizzy Pig sponsored team, Serial Grillers, on their amazing finish at this year’s Memphis in May BBQ Competition:
“To sum it up let me just say thanks to … our seasoning sponsor Dizzy Pig Barbecue Company for providing us with the best, freshest rubs on the market.
WE GOT SPUN! And my head is still spinning!”
Thanks for letting us represent Dizzy Pig! It’s a real honor.”
