We take it personally, getting intimately involved in every stage of the process. Not only do we choose and blend the spices, we test them relentlessly on a huge range of recipes to make sure they hold up.

The truth is, the art of blending flavors offers as many possibilities as stars in the Milky Way. So we’re always searching, testing, tasting…and listening to feedback from our customers. Every day, we discover new facets and expressions of spices.

That’s how we learn, develop and reveal new flavors that taste great both raw and cooked.

The Four Seasoning Collections

Original Blends

It all began, as the name speaks, with our Original Blends, and this collection continues to grow. Kitchen success involves more than a good cookbook or flair for cuisine: It requires the right ingredients. From our flagship All-Purpose Dizzy Dust to the sweet and addictive Pineapple Head, our original blends cover a surprisingly diverse flavor spectrum, enhancing everything from award-winning pulled pork to salmon to veggie skewers.

Salt-Free If you’re pursuing a low-salt diet or cooking with ingredients that already have a lot of salt, we’ve also made two of our most popular Original Blends available with no salt.

Ish Fusion Blends

Dizzy Pig took familiar flavor profiles from amongst the world’s most popular cuisines and gave them a spin. Or two. Now you can experience the world’s most popular cuisines – Mexican and Indian, Mediterranean, Cajun and Peruvian – right in your kitchen.

Naturally sugar-free, they’re perfect for high temperature grilling and pan searing. Mighty nice in pan sauces or mixed with sugar for a BBQ rub. Why, you can even sprinkle a little on as a condiment.

Black Label Series

Paying no heed to cost or tradition, we let the Dizzy Pig fly creatively to create our Black Label Series. A distinctive, eccentric collection of decidedly different flavors headed for uncharted culinary destinations. Formerly released as small-batch limited runs, these blends are now available year ‘round!

Give no regard to preconceived notions and enjoy the fruits of the Dizzy Pig’s creative endeavors. These are premium spice blends, just like the finest art.

SPG Blends

The definition of versatility is SPG (Salt, Pepper, Garlic). But achieving the perfect ratio is difficult. Flavor balance is what Dizzy Pig is best at, and it took a great deal of experimenting and cooking in the test kitchen before we nailed down the perfect recipe.

Dizzy Pig’s SPG line features a classic SPG Original, which is seriously good on about anything. Once we found the perfect formulation, we developed three variations based on the classic: Garlic for those who love the garlicky buttery flavor, Herb for that garden-fresh flavor, Chilie for that earthy, sweet and warm flavor.

What Goes into Developing a New Blend?

Flavor above all is our mantra. Flavor decides whether a meal gets thigh-slapping applause or routine chewing. So we focus on flavor balance and consistency, sparing no effort to ensure the quality of our artisan blending process. From choosing ingredients to cooking in the test kitchen, Dizzy Pig aims to make every bite of every meal something to call home about.

But we’ll be frank, the challenge of coming up with new blends is complex. Without going into too much detail, the stages of development for every one of our blends are:

  • Deciding on which spices, herbs, chilis, peppercorns and other ingredients to use, and in what proportion. The challenge is that each spice carries its own flavor profile, and each new addition shifts that balance, so we’ve got to get it just right.
  • Once the raw spice blend tastes good, our chef palate (and owner Chris Capell) cooks with them to make sure they taste good both raw and cooked – and everywhere in between.
  • Once Chris is happy with that balance, it’s time for the crew at Dizzy Pig Central to put them to the test. After our team is satisfied, we then send them to our growing list of test cooks to make extra sure that flavor is doing what we want it to. These longtime cooks are serious foodies, and they put the new seasonings through rigorous tests of their own.

Then, and only then, does a Dizzy Pig product get the seal of approval – and make its way to you.

How Do We Produce Our Seasonings?

First, we source the freshest, most consistent spices that we can find from our trusted network of suppliers we have been working with for years. When the spices arrive at our facility, they are inspected and dated so that we can assure they are kept as fresh as possible.

Nothing can beat the flavor of freshly ground whole spices, so we buy spices whole and grind them for each batch. It takes more time and efforts than purchasing pre-ground spices, but the flavor is superior in every way – and part of what makes Dizzy Pig who we are.

Once ground, the spices are mixed with other all-natural ingredients like chiles, garlic, and salt. A few minutes in our ribbon blender, and the final blend immediately goes into our bottling area. Within a few hours, the entire batch is bottled, capped, time-dated, and put into cases to go out to cooks everywhere. We can’t think of a way to make them any fresher.

Our small-batch process is a big part of why Dizzy Pig stands out over the rest. You could say our seasonings are made with love, and actually you’d be right! We truly love what we do and take a great deal of pride in putting out wholesome, safe, fresh and tasty products that you can confidently flavor your hard-earned food with.
