Wontons

  • 2 Tbsp yellow onion
  • 1 tsp fresh ginger
  • 1 lb ground chicken (or pork)
  • 1 Tbsp Happy Nancy
  • 12 oz wonton wrappers, thawed if frozen
  • 1 Tbsp canola oil

Dipping Sauce

  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1 Tbsp water
  • 1 Tbsp vinegar (or rice wine vinegar)
  • 1 Tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1/2 tsp toasted sesame seeds
  • Sriracha (or Sambal Olek) if you enjoy a little heat

Directions

Preparation

  1. Combine dipping sauce ingredients together, mix well and set aside
  2. Grate onion and fresh ginger
  3. In a medium mixing bowl, combine ground chicken (or pork), grated onion & ginger and Happy Nancy seasoning and mix well

Wrapping

  1. Individually lay wonton wrappers onto your work surface
  2. Fill a small bowl with water and place next to the wonton wrappers
  3. Place 1/2 Tbsp of the meat filling onto each wrap
  4. Brush the edges of the wrappers with water
  5. Fold the wrappers into a triangle shape and press the edges together while removing as much air as you can – make sure the edges are sealed well
  6. Repeat with the rest of the wonton wrappers until you run out of filling

Cooking

  1. Heat oil in a large frying pan on medium heat
  2. Place as many wontons as will fit on the bottom of the pan – be sure not to crowd the pan
  3. Brown the bottom of the wontons for approximately 3 minutes.
  4. Once the bottom is browned, add 1 Tbsp of water, place the lid onto the pan and cook for about 2 minutes. This will allow the steam to finish cooking the wontons
  5. Repeat until all wontons are cooked
