DrBBQ’s Garlic Butter Steak Sandwiches with Grilled Onions

DrBBQ's Garlic Butter Steak Sandwiches

By Ray Lampe, Dr. BBQ

These simple steak sandwiches are a tasty garlicky treat. The recipe is for two sandwiches but can easily be doubled. I’ve used a plancha on the grill, but this all works just fine in a skillet on the stove top or an outdoor griddle. As always, the times may vary depending how hot your griddle top is.

Ingredients

  • 6 Tbsp butter at room temp
  • Dizzy Pig SPG Garlic
  • 2 hoagie rolls
  • 1 medium yellow onion, halved and thinly sliced
  • 2 Tbsp olive oil
  • 2 strip steaks, about 1/3 pound each

Directions

  1. Prepare the grill to cook direct over medium heat, about 350°F
  2. Place a plancha or griddle on the grill to pre-heat
  3. In a small bowl, combine the butter with 2 teaspoons Dizzy Pig SPG Garlic
  4. Season the steaks with the Dizzy Pig SPG Garlic and set aside
  5. Split the rolls, then butter the cut sides with about 2/3 of the Garlic butter
  6. In a medium bowl, toss the onion with the oil and 2 teaspoons of Dizzy Pig SPG Garlic
  7. Place the rolls cut side down on the plancha. Toast until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes, and set the rolls aside
  8. Add the onions to the plancha and cook, tossing occasionally until golden browned, about 5-6 minutes. Remove the onions to a bowl and set aside
  9. Add the remaining garlic butter to the plancha
  10. When it has melted add the steaks and cook, flipping once or twice until the steaks are well browned, about 6 minutes
  11. Top the bun bottoms with the steaks, top each steak with half of the grilled onions, add the bun tops and serve
