Washington, DC – June 2012
Nothing about the DC BBQ Battle is like any other contest. Setting up after midnight in the middle of normally traffic clogged roads is a wild adventure, and briskets need to go on while we are setting up. Once things settle in, it is usually a fun weekend. People-watching is plentiful, and it is quite an eclectic crowd coming to see the teams, and the many bands that are playing.
Turn in times are also totally unique in DC. Chicken and Brisket get turned in Saturday afternoon, and Ribs and Pork Shoulder get turned in Sunday. This makes it a challenge for teams and their timing, but it is also a little more relaxing not to have all four turn ins back to back. We had a good consistent cook this year, and we really liked what we turned in. In the past, we’ve done very well in DC, and we went to the awards we thought we’d hear the Dizzy Pig name called.
