Salisbury, MD – April 15-16, 2011
Once again, the big kickoff for the season in this region is Salisbury’s Pork in the Park. The weekend was gray and cool, but there is always a warmth and excitement about this contest, no matter what the weather. The organizer, Sandy, has always had a goal of having over 100 teams, and once again that was the case this year. For the first time in quite a while, we had a full team on hand to take on the other 115 teams! We had plenty of help, and had a solid cook. Our chicken didn’t end up super pretty, but tasted good. With our other categories, we were very happy with the moisture, flavor and tenderness a`nd thought we might be “in it”! Our pork entry took a big hit from the judges, and we were hammered in that category. With a disappointing 26th place overall finish, we found solace in the fact that we finished around the 20th percentile…and hey, when your good friends win Grand Championship, it is always good. Congrats to Jay and 4:20Q on another big victory!
