Grand Champion!
New Holland, PA
Our 2014 visit to New Holland, Pennsylvania, marked our 13th year at this awesome contest in the middle of Amish country, and in the middle of the land of artisan foods. 2002 was a long time ago, and it was our first contest in New Holland. As far as I remember, Dizzy Pig co-founder Mike Kerslake figured it was a great contest to try out the newly created Dizzy Pig seasonings in a blind judging situation, and see how we could do at the pro level, sprinkling Dizzy on our food. An 8th place overall in our first contest was all it took to get us hooked. Over the next 11 years, the best Dizzy Pig could fare was 4th overall.
With 70 teams in attendance expectations are never too high, so we focused simply cooking good food. After a 3rd place call in Chicken, then quickly after returning from the stage with our 2nd place Rib trophy, we heard our name again for honorable mention (15th) in Pork. At that point it got interesting, and our hearts were beating wondering if we would get that Brisket call. 5th place Brisket . . . Dizzy Pig! Whoah! That’s 4 calls out of 4 categories. Could it be, that finally in our 13th year, we had put enough together to win?? Listening to the top 5 overall teams being called was like torture, but when we heard 3 Eyz name called for reserve, even though we refused to believe it, we pretty much knew Dizzy Pig would get the last call. And it was sweet!!! Congrats to 3 Eyz on reserve, and all teams that got calls!
