It is hard to resist bringing the Dizzy team to a well-run competition within an hour of our home base. The guys who run the BBQ Jamboree, Jeremy and James are dedicated to making this event stand out as a team-friendly contest, and it showed this past weekend. From free ice to checking in on teams constantly, the staff did a bang-up job. Dizzy Pig actually was hoping for a chance at the very unique grand prize of a golf cart (plus the prize money, of course). A ton of our friends were there, and we actually cooked up some decent turn-ins! There was a great crew on the Dizzy Pig team…Brian and Nicole, Susan, Theresa and Neil provided the perfect compliment to Chris as he bounced around.
With respectable finishes in Chicken, Ribs and Pork, we had a good shot at being in the money. Once again, surprisingly, our Brisket (39th overall with a score of 150) brought us down! Dizzy Pig finished JUST out of the tenth spot with an 11th place overall! The story of the day…big Mike Fay. Congrats to Mike and the Aporkalypse Now crew on amassing their third grand championship this year!!
Congrats as well to Casual Smokers on their reserve finish, Dizzy Pig sponsored Pepper Monkey BBQ on achieving top ten overall, and another Dizzy Pig sponsored team, (rookie team of the year last year) Old Virginia Smoke, on hitting the top 20 overall and finishing first in brisket and winning the Whiskey A Go-Go side bet challenge!
