Atlantic City, NJ – October 5th and 6th, 2013
Coming off a recent grand championship, and having a phenomenal track record in New Jersey, the Dizzy Pig team trekked up to Atlantic City to compete in the big money contest against 85 teams. We liked our chances at coming home with at least a piece of the $50 grand, but it was not to be!
Cool contest being a short walk from the ocean, food, drink and gambling. They really had amazing security in the lot for the teams, and the contest was very well organized. A ton of our friends were there competing, and the weather was not bad…even with the fog which added an interesting mood.
You can’t help but scratch your head at how we did so poorly, but that’s all part of competition BBQ. We knew we screwed up our ribs. They just didn’t get done. They weren’t too tough to eat, but you could hear your teeth tearing through the fibers. These were not good, and we knew it. What we did not know was that our worst ribs in the history of the team would be our best finish of the 4 categories…31st place. We thought we turned in great chicken, pork and brisket too.
Always a consolation when your friends win, so congrats to Mike, Barb and Christian of Chix, Swine and Bovine on winning the big grand championship, and to Bob and The BBQ Guru on a well deserved Reserve. They went home with some nice cash.
Well, not the best way to finish off a season, but it is a relief to be done for the year….especially knowing Dizzy Pig is bound for the American Royal, and probably the Jack Daniels in 2014!
