New Holland, PA – August 24, 2013
The New Holland Summerfest is quite a special contest for Dizzy Pig. This was our 12th straight year competing in this awesome contest, and it holds a special place in our heart being the first competition that we ever cooked — and the one that got us hooked. Even without this significance, we love cooking in New Holland — a charming town just West of Lancaster, PA — because life runs at a much slower pace than here in the craziness of Northern Virginia. Once again, the organizers and staff did an amazing job getting 72 teams into their spots and with everything they needed. The weather wasn’t bad to start, but Friday evening and all day Saturday brought us absolutely stellar weather, blue skies, low humidity, and even a little breeze. Consistency was the theme of the day for Dizzy Pig, and we were in the top 30th percentile across the board. The kicker was the 2nd place pork, which we’ve been working on. We’ve been struggling in the Pork category, and went with a new injection and a new Dizzy Pig rub for a new flavor profile! Either we got lucky, or it paid off. Was great cooking next to our friends at the BBQ Guru, and just across the pavilion from new friends, and grand champs “Drilling and Grilling”! Congrats guys!!
