Washington D.C. June 23, 2013
“The DC Battle” we call it here, and this is our true Hometown contest. Chris was born in DC, and spent his whole life around the city, so it really does feel like home. This is not your average contest, and cooking on the streets of the big city has its complications. This year the weather held out nicely. When it is hot down here, it is REAL hot on the streets around the cookers. But this weekend was comfortable, and the crowds came in droves. We were able to adjust to the crazy schedule….set up Friday night, Chicken, Brisket and Lamb turn ins on Saturday evening, then Ribs and Pork turn ins on Sunday.
Not only did we cook up some great food for the judges, but for the first time in many years, Dizzy Pig was fully set up to sell our products! We had a great spot right on the corner of 11th and Pennsylvania Ave, and we were able to talk to hundreds of people about our Big Green Eggs® and, of course, our famous seasonings. Being set up right across from the big TV stars was really cool, and most of them being old friends, we had a blast talking to Tuffy Stone, Johnny Trigg, Shark Tank star Heath Hall, and even Myron’s large crew. All tallied up at the end of the day, Dizzy Pig got 2 calls to the stage, 7th overall, and it was a great weekend!! Congrats to Qubed on hammering the field by 14 points for Grand, and to Pork Barrel on Reserve.
