DizzyFest 6 – June 7, 2014
June 7th Dizzy Pig held its 6th biannual Eggfest affectionately and appropriately named DizzyFest! Over 50 Big Green Eggs® we pre sold and cooked on for the very first time as 25 guest cooks teams fired them up and served amazing culinary treats from chocolate dipped bacon to paella and everything in between. We were treated to a beautiful sunny summer day and had our biggest turnout yet for DizzyFest.
Once again we had some special events to keep our tasters entertained and even got them involved in our people’s choice cooks award. We did our cooking throwdown challenge again since it was such a hit last November when it debuted. Defending champion and Dizzy Pig owner Chris Capell joined forces with Kaitlyn Proctor and competed against Dizzy Pig sponsored competition barbecue teammates Joel and Erin Matteson of Peppermonkey BBQ and longtime EGGers Mike and Karen Beer. The featured ingredient was Chilean sea bass and the competition was intense. Mike and Karen Beer came out on top with an amazing Fish and Grits offering that was out of this world. Their fish was blackened with our new Bayou-ish blend, and one judge was heard saying it was the best piece of fish he ever put in his mouth. For the people’s choice award, tasters voted on the best food sample they tried at DizzyFest by placing a strand of green beads that were given to them in their goodie bags on the cook who prepared the tastiest offering. In the end Christy Armstrong was victorious taking home some great prizes for her accomplishment.
We again had a great band, a moon bounce for the kids, and some select vendors that kept the crowd entertained while they tasted a plethora of great food! We’ll be back at it in November with DizzyFest 7 on November 8th. The DizzyFest 7 page is up and already selling taster tickets.
